Symptoms can include:

  • pain in the jaw, face, head and neck
  • trouble with chewing
  • limited mobility
  • muscle tenderness or tension
  • clicking or grinding jaw, locked jaw
  • headaches
  • bruxism: clenching/grinding
  • tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
  • dizziness
  • bite change
  • tooth wear and damage

Did you know?

Bruxism is defined as a repetitive masticatory muscle activity that can occur while sleeping and/or when awake. There are 4 subtypes which can occur separately or together:

  • clenching
  • grinding of the teeth
  • bracing
  • thrusting of the jaw

Retraining an appropriate resting oral posture, ensuring a proper airway, strengthening and stabilizing the jaw/tongue/neck and properly identifying triggers are essential in treating bruxism.
